Resumo: Mammary tumors are common in entire female dogs and have a high impact on veterinary medicine. Researchers focus on diagnosis standardization, neoplastic behavior and its evolution, and techniques that increase patient survival. It is known that lymphatic pathway is the most important in locoregional metastatic dissemination and that the sentinel lymph node is the first to receive tumor lymph. Several techniques, used alone or combined, are described for lymphatic mapping. The objective of the present study is to compare the efficacy of lymphatic marking between two different markers, 1% methylene blue and indocyanine green, and to compare two surgical approaches for unilateral total mastectomies, the fine dissection technique and the manual traction technique, considering surgical time and intraoperative hemorrhage. That way, eight female dogs attended in the routine of the Veterinary University Hospital of the Federal University of Alagoas (HUV-UFAL) were included in this study and submitted to unilateral total mastectomy, randomly distributed in two groups, one using the manual traction technique and methylene blue dye 1 %, and in the other one the fine dissection technique and indocyanine green. The use of 1% methylene blue for lymphatic mapping in bitches with mammary neoplasia showed a high percentage of allergic reactions compared to indocyanine green. Unilateral total mastectomy using thin dissection showed better transoperative hemorrhage control than the manual traction approach.
