Resumo: The objective of this research is analyzing the verbal agreement in the speech of children and teenagers who live in philanthropic entities of Maceió. We chose Labov’s (2008 [1972]) Variationist Sociolinguistics Theory, in order to better understand the linguistic behavior of these children. In order to do that, we chose the position of the subject, the number of elements between the subject and the verb and number/person as linguistic factors. The chosen extra linguistic factors were: schooling, the period of attendance in the philanthropic entity and the locality - regarding the location where the collaborator lived before going to the institution. Thus, we performed some theoretical and methodological reflections aiming at getting to our objective, as coherently as possible. We also discuss some Sociolinguistic studies on verbal agreement and we noticed that several expound that the studied variable is statisticaly influenced by linguistic factors, like by extra linguistic factors. The corpus of this research is composed of recordings of interviews and narratives, stratified according to extra linguistic factors chosen for the analysis. The Goldvarb X computer program was used for the quantitative analysis of the data. Thus, we carried out the linguistic analysis of the data and concluded that there is variation between subject and verb in the speech of children and teenagers who live in philanthropic entities of Maceió and which this variation is influenceded by linguisticts and extra linguistics factors.
