Resumo: | This study aims to understand the family arrangements built by people enslaved in the parish of Nossa Senhora da Conceição de Água Branca, in the region of Alto Sertão de Alagoas, from 1850 to 1888. For this purpose, families are identified in the parish marriage, baptism and death, and sources of cartorial typology. The research seeks to analyze the possible meanings that Catholic rituals of marriage and baptism have had for the family life of these people. investigates families in their networks of solidarities, addressing the nineteenth century conjuncture, the domestic trade of enslaved women, the period of the drought of 1877-1879, and the persistence of the enslaved to preserve their family and community ties. It uses a variety of sources, parochial records, inventories, proxies, criminal procedures, requirements, an action of freedom, among others, analyzed using methods of demography and microanalysis, and the theoretical contribution of historiography in the theme. The family experiences of the enslaved show significant sociabilities, arrangements between people of different legal status and generational families. |
