Resumo: | This study aims to understand the formation of the public space built, by the public authorities, at Lagoa da Jansen, in São Luís, Maranhão, and its contradictions in the field of leisure. The public and private division occurs through a segmentation of leisure, which says where and how leisure should be practiced in free time. It is in this capitalist order that the paths that entertainment must follow are directed. Thus, Maranhão is inserted in a global context with the predominance of the hegemonic capitalist model, which, throughout its history, reflects the unequal geographical development. The changes brought about by urbanization in the space under study occur through social agents who produce the urban space, represented by the State, capital owners, and real estate owners, who configure themselves as ideological instruments, benefiting a certain social category, when they impose habits and customs that are distant from the former residents and others who resist the changes sponsored by real estate speculation. The city becomes the scene of important manifestations, and leisure becomes evident as a social practice. In this way, public leisure spaces, when they undergo urbanistic transformations, provide changes for certain publics. As theoretical basis, for discussing the theme under study, the following authors were used: Bourdieu (1989), Burnett (2008, 2011), Gomes (2013), Harvey (2004, 2005, 2009), Lefebvre (2001), Marcellino (2002), Maricato and Colosso (2020), Marx (2008), and Smith (1988). Therefore, the research was based on the qualitative and quantitative method, presenting, as results, contradictions in the various segments of leisure, equipment, and social category. After extensive verification of the data, the factors that could gauge the validity of the hypotheses were selected. Then, by means of quantitative analysis, the correlation between these factors was evaluated |
