Resumo: | The political and ideological stance of the journal Lei e Polícia (Law and Police) published between June 1948 and January 1950, during Eurico Gaspar Dutra's administration, is provided. The period may also be considered as an extension of political intolerance in Brazil. The journal's relationship with anticommunism and its contribution towards anticommunist propaganda in Brazil are analyzed. Actually anticommunist policy is revealed through the journal's background filled with pictures and articles. The issues dealt with in current research are linked to the historicity of anticommunist practice and to the modes of its manifestations in published articles. Communist ideology changed according to the different social, cultural and historical contexts in which it developed. It was propagated through various means (pictures, words, music and others) and manifested itself in culture and in the people's imagination. Its organizers were strongly committed in canvassing people for their cause. The anticommunist imaginary became part of the social and cultural process in Brazilian popular culture. In fact, people established and re-established individually and collectively their anticommunist representations and practices. The importance of Law and Police was highly important in the context of such a process. |
