Resumo: | This dissertation aims to analize on life in both cities proposed by Augustine in The City of God, a work that was originally written to refute the accusations directed on Christians regarding the fall of the Roman Empire. In fact, the work underlies some of the most important principles of Christianity. Men who love themselves and the goods of temporal life, Inhabit the "terrestrial city , while those who love God are part of the heavenly city . Anthropological aspects such as the finitude and corruption of human nature, lead to the assertion that only the hope of eternal life sustains the conviviality between these two groups of men who are a part of history. It is because they hold hope in the happy life that men sustain some balance, in the midst of sin and the vicious nature they inherited from Adam. This nature prevents men from governing themselves and turning coercion legitimate, however, without offering conditions for man to consider himself to be the possessor of a complete equilibrium, or of a complete order, which he will find only in eternity. |
