Resumo: Introduction: There are currently several ways of relating the disease to healing practices, which are associated with the historical and cultural character of diseases. Healers are usually sought after when people have some health-related difficulty. Among these issues, we highlight breastfeeding, because in this period the woman goes through a singular process, which demands support and guidance in the possible difficulties when breastfeeding. Objectives: to understand the experiences and meanings of the breastfeeding process and its relationship with the breastfeeding practices of breastfeeding women. Method: Two distinct methods were performed: the first was the integrative review of the literature in the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) databases; Google Scholar and Researchgate, using the combination of descriptors: breastfeeding; Breastfeeding, benzidine and benzimidazole, two publications were selected that met the research objective and composed the research data. The second method was a qualitative approach, configured by the interviews with ten mothers who have passed and / or are undergoing the process of To nurse Results: the integrative literature review showed that the mothers seek the benzedeiras in the face of unexpected intercurrences. The review has shown that blessing has been seen as a therapeutic resource that assists mothers in healing or solving difficulties encountered during this process. And yet, it is clear that the scientific literature values the biological view of the body, followed by the Cartesian model proposed by medicine, as opposed to the practices performed by the benzedeiras. Already the interviews revealed four thematic nuclei, being: "Maternal allegations to the search of the benzimento"; "The blessing and the intergenerational knowledge" and "The blessing and the manifestations in the breastfeeding". In view of the above, it can be seen that the experiences and meanings of breastfeeding and breastfeeding can be considered as a resistance movement to the practices practiced by biopolitical medicine, as well as an attempt to empower women as protagonists in the breastfeeding process.
