Resumo: This dissertation aims to analyze some practices of social control undertaken by the imperial state during the validity of the Criminal Code of 1830 and other legal provisions that based the procedures of judges and police authorities. This research starts from the assumption that some behaviors of the free populations of smaller possessions were seen as a problem to the order sought by the imperial elite. For this reason, police documents known as the propriety of conduct law were emphasized, and to a lesser extent, the set of municipal ordinances. The choice of this type of documentation is justified by the fact that they deal with issues related to the control of everyday behavior. In addition to these aspects, circumstances were analyzed in which free poor people activated these police devices in order to resolve their disputes. This documentary set refers to the region of Guarapuava from 1853, which coincides with the emancipation of the Province of Paraná.
