Resumo: This study was conducted on both rural communities Marmeleiro de Baixo, and Arroio Grande, at the Counties of Reboucas and Irati, respectively. The objective is to understand the traditional rural communities and the potential contribution of Social Technology for their daily lives and the communitarian development. The traditional peasant communities were analyzed by their historical, cultural and organizational characteristics, single out the communitarian values and guiding principles, composed with the use of Social Technology in their routines. The methodological procedures of field search included participant observation in several communities` cultural events and meetings, as well as the procedure of semi-structured interviews with communities` members. There were observed the empirical, and often rudimentary, usage of more than a few techniques that could become viable Social Technology. Such technology would support the resilience and coexistence of the peasant traditional culture at the central Southern Region in the State of Parana, Brazil. The practices and techniques that emerged in this research may contribute to the demystification of the officially conveyed "image" regarding the peasant traditional culture communities. It was observed that in many cases there is an incongruity between public policies or programs and the communities` daily lives. Finally, the manner these communities use the natural resources they have can be considered as a sustainable alternatives that point to the possibility of a decent living for the inhabitants of the researched region.
