Resumo: |
This dissertation discusses the process of admission of women to a mostly male club, the Rotary Club. Initially, we search to understand the factors that made it impossible for them to participate as members and district leaders in the first decades of the club, this being the context of representations of masculinities existing in the foundation process, the ideals of femininity and masculinity developed during founder’s life trajectory and, especially, gender relations in club-law sociability existing in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The women were admitted as members of the Rotary Club only as of 1989, however, it was possible to identify, in analysis the narratives of Rotarians and Rotarians’ Mrs., that some standard of femininity remained active, such as benevolence, marriage and motherhood. In the case of district leaders and governors, the criterion of the position of businesswomen, was one of the factors that enabled his participation in the club. The time frame was established as a period of 1989 to 2000, was the period in which they were officially allowed to participate at international level. The spatial cut-off corresponded to the districts scattered in the Rotary Club of Brazil, considering that the narratives and other sources analyzed corresponded to the productions made by Rotary Brazil magazine and the work Rotary Brazil magazine and the work Mulheres, suas histórias e trajetórias, made by District 4480. |
