Resumo: Social networks such as the YouTube platform are present in the daily lives of many children, watching videos of the most diverse content has become something pleasurable in the children's context. Thus, the present study was developed from the following problem: what are the uses made of the YouTube platform by students of Elementary School Early Years at Escola Municipal José Bonifácio in the city of Vitorino-PR? As a general objective, it was defined: to analyze the use of the YouTube platform by students of Elementary School Early Years at Escola Municipal José Bonifácio in the city of Vitorino-PR. The specific objectives were: a) To present a contextualization of Digital Media and Contemporary Education; b) Understand the child in the context of the media and their current learning appropriations; c) Check the knowledge that children have about the YouTube platform; d) Get to know the YouTube platform as a social network and the search for school content through a demonstrative class. The methodology used was developed in the form of qualitative analysis, exploratory process, thematic analysis and literature review, basing the study on the reflections of: Araújo (2019), Poisson (2018), Monteiro (2020), Lima (2016), Pechanski (2016), Moran (2013) and Turke (2010). Thus, an interview was carried out with 10 (ten) Elementary School students, in order to analyze the uses and appropriations that children are making of the YouTube platform. Next, a demonstrative class was proposed with all elementary school students at the school, in order to understand the knowledge that children have, as well as to present the YouTube platform to students, in addition to showing access and search procedures for educational content. Based on the instruments and analysis steps, it was possible to verify that access to the YouTube platform has become part of the children's routine, seeking to watch videos with subjects of their momentary interest. The children participating in the research already know the stages of access, but the search for educational content has only occurred with children in the 4th and 5th grade, this shows the need to encourage the search for videos that will develop learning and complement the subjects worked in the classroom.
