Resumo: Metal surfaces in contact with biodiesel can catalyze the oxidation of biofuel, but there is not a requirement of the body which regulates the quality control of biodiesel (ANP - National Petroleum and Natural Gas), as the tests in the presence metals. This paper aims to present the influence on oxidative stability test to 110 oC immersion of stainless steel plates AISI 304 and AISI 1008 carbon steel in the absence and presence of the antioxidant tert-butyl hydroquinone (TBHQ) in soy biodiesel. The technique used in this study is based on conductivity measurements, the device Rancimat 873, Metrohm according to EN 14112. The results show a decrease of 3.75 hours in the induction of biodiesel sample to 2.62 and 2.61 in the presence of stainless steel AISI 304 and AISI 1008 carbon steel, respectively. The amount of antioxidant necessary for the samples in the presence of metallic reached the minimum value of the induction time have been proposed by different ANP: 500 ppm for the sample containing stainless steel, now containing 1008 carbon steel sample required 750 ppm. Moreover, it was possible to determine the period of storage of biofuel at 25oC, and get some kinetic parameters of these processes, such as order of reaction rate constant and the activation energy of the systems studied.
