The objective of this study was to evaluate productive performance, ingestive behavior, apparent digestibility of the diet and the carcass traits of beef steers finished in feedlot fed diets with the inclusion of Saccharomyces cerevisiae fermentation products or Saccharomyces cerevisiae autolyzed yeast. The treatments were: T1 - diet without yeast (control); T2 – diet with yeast culture (7g Cultron® animal day-1 ); and T3 – diet with autolyzed yeast (7g Cultron Pro® animal day-1). The diets consisted of a mixture of 40% corn silage and 60% concentrate, provided ad libitum. The experimental design was randomized blocks, consisting of three treatments and six replications. Thirty-six whole steers, ½ Angus ½ Nellore blood, with initial average body weight of 369 kg were used in the experiment. The supply of S. cerevisiae fermentation products resulted in greater daily body weight gain of the animals, which was on average 0,260 kg in daily gain in relation to those of the control group, and a better ability to convert ingested DM into weight gain due to significant improvements in apparent digestibility of the diet, increasin the DM digestibility from 73% to 74,67% in relation to the control treatment. Animals thatwere given autolyzed yeast in the diet showed intermediate results for these same variables. The supply of yeast culture in steer finishing promoted an increase in daily weight gain and better carcass finishing. |
