Resumo em Inglês: This study presents an overview of Agricultural and Environmental Certification in the Federal District, in the light of a risk analysis SWOT: strengths, opportunities, weaknesses and threats. From the pioneering experience mainly in Europe but also in Brazil, especially in the municipalities of Sorriso, Lucas do Rio Verde and Nova Mutum in Mato Grosso (MT). There was a contextualization of the most important environmental certifications in Brazil and the Federal District. In the Federal District, the rural lands account for two thirds of the total land territory, which equates to approximately 453,860 hectares. There are more than nineteen thousand farms, of which less than 10% are settled. The work uses the SWOT analysis for measurement purposes, development of concepts of effectiveness, efficiency and effectiveness in operational and comparative within the agricultural sector of the Federal District, ie, it was a survey of strengths and opportunities in public policy in DF that are effective and efficient use of existing agricultural practices designed to improve the implementation of Environmental Management Systems (EMS). The implementation of public political for the sector that encourages environmental certification and sustainable increase in agricultural productivity, with the encouragement and direct participation of farmers, enabling enter deforested areas through environmental restoration, using techniques to the Low Carbon Agriculture (ABC) with promotion of a truly vintage green, which is measurable and verifiable and replicable oriented consumption locally, nationally and internationally. As weaknesses and threats, the challenge is to make accessible to farmers these production technologies, in order to facilitate new investment and strengthen the region as a hub generator agribusiness. The implementation of the Environmental Certification of Agriculture of the Federal District may also promote equal treatment to all rural producers, integrating the different sectors of the decreasing social inequalities between urban and rural areas. Environmental certification can become a key factor in promoting and differentiation of products or processes in the market, and open new business possibilities.
