Resumo: This dissertation deals with the subject of social networks in the light of the Theory of Communicative Action by the German philosopher, Jürgen Habermas. Its main focus is on the Habermasian concern with communicative action, as a model of qualified action in the search for understanding in human relationships and, in particular, in the use of social networks. Its elaboration process involves a deep dive into the concepts of rationality, understanding, the world and the world of life, communicative action, strategic action, public sphere, instrumental reason and the definition of social network. It aims, above all, to broaden the debate on the risks and limits of the strategic use of social networks, in order to suggest the path of communicative use, language is seen as a medium of communication at the service of understanding and strongly assumes the role of great challenge that is to make social networks an instrument of authentic communication in the promotion of respectful social relationships.
