Resumo: This academic research aims to understand the articulation of a fundamentalist system with political objectives constructed by the Assembly of God, the main Pentecostal denomination in Brazil, during the 1980s. The initial hypothesis suggests that, during this period, the formation of this system was a deliberate response to emerging modernity and the consequent crisis of meaning. However, in addition to confronting the growing cultural plurality, we identified that the political aspirations of the denomination played a crucial role in adopting fundamentalism as a strategy to penetrate the political sphere, particularly at a time when Brazil was undergoing a process of redemocratization and the drafting of the federal constitution. To elucidate this phenomenon, we resorted to the analysis of the official communication of the General Convention of the Assemblies of God in Brazil, exemplified by the Messenger of Peace. The investigative trajectory starts from the Pentecostals' media incursion into partisan politics, culminating in their strategic influence on the national political landscape. The subsequent research focuses on the use of print media as an instrument of influence, exploring the evolution of the Brazilian Pentecostal Movement and the instrumental role of the Messenger of Peace in the communication of the Assembly of God. Next, we contextualize the analysis based on theories that discuss the social construction of reality, challenges of modernity, cultural plurality, and crises of meaning in contemporary societies. Finally, we highlight the manifestations of fundamentalism identified through communicative strategies, grounded in consolidated journalistic theories. In the context of the employed academic methodology, a survey was conducted on all editions of the Messenger of Peace that circulated between the years 1980 and 1989. This meticulous documentary analysis was essential for the effectiveness of the research, allowing a comprehensive and detailed understanding of the communication strategies and content disseminated by the Assembly of God. This methodology not only facilitated the identification of patterns and recurring themes but also enabled a critical analysis of the denomination's discourse evolution over the decade. Within this theoretical and methodological framework, we observe how the nuances and imperatives of fundamentalism are interspersed with the challenges of modernity. This intertwining not only shapes the rhetoric of the Assembly of God but also influences its political and strategic approach. Additionally, the implementation of the Messenger of Peace as a communicative tool reveals the denomination's efforts to control the narrative, solidify its base, and establish a firm stance in the Brazilian political-religious scenario of the time.
