Resumo: |
Since the beginning of the 2000s, the Religious Studies has experienced, in Brazil, a strong period of academic expansion, with the opening of several undergraduate and postgraduate courses (master's and doctorate degree). As an effect of this process, the political and institutional outline of these courses acquired clearer contours, making epistemology a central theme in discussions about the academic profile of the scholar in Religious Studies, his area of training and performance. However, the positions taken up in this debate are heterogeneous, especially regarding the existence or not of a theoretical-methodological framework and a genealogy that are proper to the Religious Studies. In order to map this issue, our thesis has the general objective of analyzing how the discourses referring to the object, methods and conceptual affiliations of Religious Studies in Brazil are produced. And as a development, the following specific objectives: a) to present how the articulation between Historical Epistemology, practiced by Georges Canguilhem, and Discourse Analysis, elaborated by Michel Pêcheux, allows examining the production of values and meanings of a scientific practice in a given time; b) to track, from a genealogy of the concept of religion to the Science of Religion, the emergence, development and diaspora of this scientific practice; c) to examine the emergence and dissemination of courses in Religious Studies in Brazil and the theoretical-methodological reflections on the area; d) to map the discursive functioning of the term epistemology in the debate on the epistemological status of Religious Studies on the national scene between 2001 and 2022. Methodologically anchored in the discursive cartography of scientific practices, we outline an epistemological history of the Religious Studies in its formative phase and classical period, as well as analyzing the production conditions that characterize its university institutionalization in Brazilian lands and the contradictions inherent to this process, investigating how the theme of epistemology acquires importance in this context. In the discursive analysis of the debate around the term epistemology, we observed that despite the various attempts to equate the theme, a historical series of theoretical, methodological and institutional problems persists in the dominant ways of understanding what the Religious Studies is. In the lines that mark the outcome of this study, we indicate that despite the misunderstandings that cross the epistemological clashes of the discipline in our country, remaining in them need not be the final destination of scholars in Religious Studies. The possibility of new departures is not closed. |
