Resumo: Considering the public prison institutions in Brazil, especially the experience of being incarcerated during the COVID-19 pandemic, we envision moments beyond the "Institutional Situation of Concern," already recognized by the Supreme Federal Court (STF). Discussing the imminent political and humanitarian crisis is necessary, while examining fundamental principles such as human dignity. Therefore, in this research, we aim to comprehend the measures for preventing the spread of Coronavirus in prisons. The general objective is to analyze the causes of deaths among incarcerated individuals during the COVID-19 pandemic in the state of Pernambuco. From this perspective, the specific objectives are: to observe the preventive measure against COVID-19 infection propagation in the prison system through Recommendation No. 62 of the National Council of Justice; and to examine the issue of access to justice in the face of extreme isolation in prison. Addressing the following problem question: how are inmates at the Judge Antônio Luiz Lins de Barros Prison in the Curado Complex in Recife/PE dying? This dissertation aims to achieve a reflective observation of the experience within the prison environment. It is worth noting that the overcrowding in Brazilian prison facilities exacerbates the survival conditions of inmates. With the strong coloniality of power in the Brazilian political-prison scenario, we could say that at any moment, we will explode as a prison humanity. The data show that the situation of prison overcrowding in Pernambuco at the Judge Antônio Luiz Lins de Barros Prison is alarming, due to the significant deficit of vacancies in the prison system.
