Resumo: The More Doctors Program (MDP) was created in Brazil with the objective of reducing inequalities of access in Primary Health Care (PHC). Based on the evidence that prove the scarcity of professionals in the country, especially in the most vulnerable regions, one of the axes of action is aimed at providing emergency care for these professionals in vulnerable areas. Thus, it is evident the strengthening of health teams that represent the individual´s first access to the health system, passing in its composition to have the permanent professional and present in health actions, where previously several municipalities had difficulties in hiring and maintaining professionals and the active teams. The objective of this work is to evaluate the More Doctors Program from the perceptions and experiences of the primary care health teams working in the city of São Carlos - SP. This is an exploratory study with a qualitative approach that used the semi-structured interview with program supervisors and focus groups with community health agents (CHA), mid-level professionals (nursing assistants and technicians) and higher level (nurses, dentists) that make up the teams from questions pertinent to the objectives of the study. After the transcriptions and analysis of the technique, the following categories emerged, with subcategories being described as: evaluation of the first MDBP professionals, in which the teams welcomed the professional as a “help” to the demands of the teams, at first there was a noticeable resistance on the part of the population, it was something passenger after the first months. The contact with the professional and the program by the teams, It was seen as positive due to the difficulties of not having the doctor at the unit. In another category, we highlight the changes that occurred in the teams with the integration of this professional. It was noticeable the differential of the formation of these professionals in making health, the establishment and the ease as occurred the link between team, professional and community and finally arose a category regarding the trajectory of the municipality's project, we had difficulty with some doctors for not performing participatory management within the teams, due to lack of clarification by the part of the local management. It was evident by the part of the teams to describe the trajectory that the project was a historic landmark due to the number of professionals and the changes that occurred in the teams and communities. However the discreet or lack of management by the part of the municipal management, we haven´t had the full benefit of what the program could offer us. Today, we have doubts about if the program will continue or not and how we will be without emergency provision, whereas our professionals, the doctors’ don´t adhere to or create bonds with the teams.
