Resumo: |
The present Doctoral Thesis in Education, entitled "Teaching in Higher Education: the importance of people management for the promotion of well-being and quality of life at work in the light of positive psychology", aims to analyze the importance of people management (PM) actions aimed at higher education teachers and their contributions to health, well-being (WB) and quality of life at work (QLW) in the contemporary context. This work is relevant because it deals with aspects that affect the physical, mental and emotional health of the university professor, a profession that needs attention and care in order to guarantee a better quality of professional and personal life. The research was carried out in a public higher education institution in Porto Alegre/Rio Grande do Sul, with representatives from the PM area, teachers and directors of the faculties of Education, Psychology, Nursing and Administration, all areas related to the theme of this study, totality 394 participants. The qualitative approach methodology was used, having as instruments of data collection interviews, document analysis, and application of online questionnaires (only for teachers), with the intention of answering the issue about the contribution of institutional people management policies for the well-being and quality of life at work of university professors. The data were interpreted by the discursive textual analysis from which the following categories emerged: PM team and directors: 1) PM performance in actions to promote WB and QLW; directors: 2) demands of teaching work; 3) resources for teaching work; 4) engagement of teachers; teachers: 1) organizational justice; 2) perception and organizational support; 3) paper overload; 4) work-family conflict; 5) WB at work; 6) engagement; and 7) organizational commitment. The theoretical framework that served as the basis of this study contemplated the state of the art on the studied theme. The results showed that the PM area carries out actions that can contribute to the WB, QLW, and health of the teacher, but few specifically involving these themes, but that indirectly interfere in these issues, a fact perceived by the respondents and manifested, above all from the research with the teachers, which pointed out the 'satisfaction with their well-being at work' as the most felt positive emotion.
