This master's thesis examines the characters Eliza Sommers, Aurora del Valle, and Alba Trueba from the Del Valle trilogy, comprising the novels Hija de la fortuna (1999), Retrato en sepia (2000), and La casa de los espíritus (1982) by Chilean author Isabel Allende. The objective is to demonstrate how these characters fit into different "waves" of the feminist movement. Supported and protected by other women, each of the three characters, in distinct ways, breaks through the social barriers imposed upon them and charts the courses of their own lives. This study is based on theoretical frameworks from authors such as Simone de Beauvoir, Michelle Perrot, Gloria Anzaldúa, Marcia Hoppe Navarro, among others. As for the research findings, it can be affirmed that the characters in the mentioned works primarily navigate the first and second waves of feminisms. Furthermore, this study highlights the extent to which the unity among women, especially among feminists, contributed to the care and emancipation of each of them throughout their journeys.
