Resumo: This paper deals with a study about one of the current approaches of the intertextuality concept through Textual Linguistics, more specifically by Koch, Bentes and Cavalcante (2012). The interest in holding this academic research comes from the fact of considering intertextuality as one of the most significant phenomena of language due to the possibility to enhance text comprehension. The dialogic principle of Bakhtin, coined by Kristeva, embodies the theoretical perspective of this paper. Moreover, the influence from Bakhtin offers a comprehensive approach to the detriment of questions that involve quotations in intertexts. Three specific objectives outline the study: (i) to examine the development of intertextuality concept in Textual Linguistics, notably by Koch; (ii) to study the theoretical origins of intertextuality recurring to the dialogic postulate of language and to concepts from the Analysis of Speech, used and/or prefigured on the theoretical book of Koch, Bentes and Cavalcante (2012); (iii) to analyze texts and illustrate how intertextual relationships can contribute to textual comprehension. Thus, two poems are in this paper, but the authors did not analyze them. They are “Canção do exílio” from Gonçalves Dias and “Canção do exílio às avessas” from Jô Soares. The author elaborated a guideline that analyzes the texts taking two topics on evaluation process: textual genre and intertextual relationships according to the theoretical perspective referred. Therefore – leading on an idea that meaning is not only in the text, but also in the interaction author-text-reader/listener – the intention is to show that effects of meaning result from recognizing characteristics of texts as a genre, expanding in virtue of the revelation of intertextual dialogue, which in turn is unfold by the activation of previous knowledge of the reader. Theoretical discussion and text analysis held in this research, are the contribution to the reflection about the importance of studying intertextual processes that occur in language regarding them as resources capable of revealing underlying meanings to the texts.
