Tom emotivo-volitivo em traduções de textos bíblicos : uma análise dialógica

Resumo: In this dissertation we aim to understand the ways in which emotional-volitional tones emerge in written texts, bearing in mind the edification of meanings that, through dialogic tensions, emerge when reading and comparing two translations of biblical texts. Given that intonation, as well as the tones which constitute it, are usually linked to their oral aspect, we find it fruitful to reflect upon how these concepts can be also applied to written texts. To this end, we turn to conceptions in the dialogic perspective, according to the postulates of the Bakhtin Circle; among these, intonation is relevant, as the emotional-volitional tones are in it allocated; additionally, we seek support in the concepts of architectonics, speech genres (especially style) and dialogism, among others. Notions related to production conditions were also articulated, such as linguistic-cultural contexts, times and spaces – chronotope; as for the method, we rely on the guidelines as found in Volóchinov ([1929] 2017). Therefore, in order to bring light to this phenomenon, 3 psalms were selected as our corpus: an individual lament (88), an imprecation (109) and finally, a thanksgiving (30). They were selected because they take on contours that cover feelings such as joy, trust and hope, alongside fear, anger and despair. In this way, they become a linguistic source that privileges a study like the one proposed here, due to the wide emotional variation that arises from the dialogue between the human and the divine. The two translations we work with are the Holy Bible Almeida Corrigida Fiel, self-referenced as “precise and faithful”, and a version aimed at young readers: the Holy Bible – Edition with notes for the young, containing the New Translation in Today's Language. Thus, our specific objectives are: a) to find out how the architectonics of each version are built, their approximations and distances, and how this can cause, via intonation and emotional-volitional tones, implications in terms of understanding and responsiveness on the part of the reader; b) to identify and analyze, in the two translations, which resources inscribed in the linguistic materiality and in the discourse itself, contribute to the establishment of tones, then collaborating with the construction of meanings c) to verify if a translation that seeks to offer a “simplified” version of psalms to a specific readership, adapting especially style, can tension the different translations under study in such a way that in this dynamic also their thematic content is re-signified. As a gesture of analysis, the main findings indicate that, based on the regularities of how the verses – utterances – are woven in each version, different emotional-volitional tones emerge from them. The speech genre psalm, in both Holy Bibles, does not change; however, as these two translations display different language registers, especially concerning style, the version containing the most conservative variant can be considered as belonging to the secondary speech genre scope, and the version directed at the young, to the primary speech genre spectrum.
