Resumo: |
The Program of the Brazilian Federal Government called "Mais Educação", in operation since 2008, was created to implement continuing education in public schools throughout the country. The Program, which included 274 participating schools in the state of Rio Grande do Sul in 2009, has as one of its purposes the implementation of educational and socio-educational activities to improve the educational performance and attainment. In this study, was evaluated the impact of the Program in the average scores of the disciplines of Portuguese language and mathematics in public schools of Rio Grande do Sul obtained in exams (Prova Brasil) for the 4th and 8th-graders. The method used was of estimation of differences in differences in conjunction with propensity score matching. The program has a positive effect and is statistically significant for the average scores of Portuguese language in the 4th grade of the participating schools . This impact is higher for schools that participated in the program since 2008, given the longer exposure to the program. On the other hand, for proficiency in mathematics (problem solving) in the 4th grade, the effect of the program was negative. Furthermore, it was found no effect on performance of 8th grade students for both Portuguese language and mathematics. |
