Resumo: |
Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of maxillary protraction with a face mask in patients with cleft lip and palate after rapid maxillary expantion, using two kind of protocol treatments, the initial time (T0), after 1 year (T1), and after 5 years of the procedure (T5). Methods: cephalometric tracings obtained from teleradiografias profile, a sample of 17 patients, 8 females and 9 males, with a mean age of 10.4 ± 2.6 were performed. To check the normality of the data recorded, we used the nonparametric Kolmogorov- Smirnov. In the comparison between group 1 (conventional expansion) with group 2 (alternating constrictions and expansions), but also between times T student (T0 vs T5) test for paired samples for comparison of the times (T0 vs T1) was used (T1 vs. T5), considering a significance level of 5 %. Results: there was stability measures for the maxilla in the anteroposterior and vertical directions, keeping the offset down and forward. As for the jaw and dental relations, the results returned to baseline standards. Conclusion: the expansion and maxillary protraction has immediate beneficial effects in the treatment of Class III in patients with cleft lip and palate. However the long -term patterns and baseline characteristics of the patients began to reappear. |
