Resumo: The central objective of this research is to consider a reflection on the use of proofs and demonstrations in the content algebraic Sets and Numerical Sets studied in the first grade of Brazilian High School. To reach our objective, we analyze the first volume of three of the eleven course book selections selected by the Brazilian Education Ministry in the National Program of the Didactic Book for High School. The analysis of selected books was made from the proofs and demonstrations tasks contained in content algebraic Sets and Numerical Sets. For the analysis of these tasks we use the notion of praxeology (CHEVALLARD, 1999) and of levels of proof (BALACHEFF, 1988). In each analyzed task, we also detach the possibility of working with the conceptions of algebra proposals by Usiskin (1995). With this research we intend to answer the following question: How the analyzed course books consider to the pupils of the first year of High School proofs and demonstrations to the properties enunciated throughout exposition of the algebraic content Sets and Numerical Sets? The praxeology analysis of the proof and demonstration tasks contained in the algebraic content Sets and Numerical Sets allowed us to answer the research question declared previously, as well as bringing contributions for the area of Mathematical Education
