Resumo: Introduction: Neonatal is the period between the date of birth and twenty-eighth days after birth, in this period parents face many doubts and anxiety. Even previous neonatal period experiences are not enough to avoid or decrease of such parent’s anguishes. In this context, parents commonly take newborns to prompt care units to solve simple health matters. Despite of this practice reassure the parents, it can be harmful to the newborns because they get expose to a great pathogens circulation environment. Since the vaccination coverage is still at early stage and the immunodeficiency age-specific, this behavior can bring risks to the newborns. Objective: This study aims the objective reduction of newborn’s care flow in emergency units through the educational intervention in maternity. Methodology: This is a descriptive, quantitative and qualitative study assisted by pediatricians with educational intervention in the municipal maternity of Salto de Pirapora, in Sao Paulo estate countryside. It is based in an individual questionnaire, made pre educational intervention with 99 mothers and newborn’s accompanying to understand the most frequent concerns about the main health problems during the neonatal period. Regarding the previously a dialogical educative intervention was organized in the maternity about and when the newborn in fact should be taken to an emergency unit. After the neonatal period, the same mothers answered an intervention evaluation questionnaire and the data of newborn’s care flow in emergency units before and after the intervention was compared. Results: The results show that there was a reduction on the emergency services demand. The proportion of those who went to the prompt care was 36.7% on the year before the intervention and 30.56% two years earlier. The reduction reached about 12.33% after the intervention, an average reduction of 21.3%. The biggest concerns of the participants were: fever 65.63%, choking or drowning 39.58%, constant crying 33.33% and allergy 25%
