Resumo: This investigation is inserted in the academic research area of History and Description of Portuguese Language in the Post-graduate Studies Program in Portuguese Language of Portifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo (PUC-SP) and it boards the theme of the lexicographic of the young learner pedagogy in the area of Portuguese as a Foreign Language (PLE). The general objective of this thesis aims at the contribution towards the studies of lexicographic, exclusively about the elaboration of dictionaries for the young learner of Portuguese as a Foreign Language (PLE) suitable for the particular needs of this young dictionary user profile. The specific objectives are: 1) review the theoretical principles of the recent studies of metalexicographical and lexicographical pedagogy; 2) analyze the structural components of young learner dictionaries for scholar use, elaborated for native speakers of Portuguese, regarding to the fact that a dictionary aiming at the young learner of non-native Portuguese speaking has not been produced in Brazil, until this publication; 3) suggest metalexicographical guidelines for the development and elaboration of a dictionary of young learners of Portuguese as a Foreign Language (PLE). In order to develop this study, as preview sample, it was carried out an analysis of corpora composed of the following dictionaries: i) Visual Dictionary of Portuguese “Palavrinha Viva” - Dicionário Ilustrado da Língua Portuguesa Palavrinha Viva (2008); (ii) Visual Dictionary Aurélio - Dicionário Aurélio Ilustrado (2008); and (iii) Visual Dictionary of Portuguese - Dicionário Ilustrado de Português (2009). The main motivation for this present research is the fact that there is no lexicographic product elaborated in Brazil, focusing on the young learner needs for Portuguese as a Foreign Language (PLE). The initial hypothesis guiding this academic research is that the scholar dictionaries available in Brazil do not demonstrate an adequate organization for the learning of Brazilian Portuguese in the context of Portuguese as a Foreign Language (PLE), as they are elaborated focusing on the native speakers of Portuguese as a mother tongue. As this regard, it is believed to be possible to organize and elaborate young learner dictionaries of Portuguese as a Foreign Language (PLE), scientifically and academically planned, with metalexicographical guidelines. This paper is a qualitative research and its methodological procedure was a descriptive base, with the theory-analysis approach. The selected theoretical foundation for this study was based on, as a reference, recent researches, developed in the lexical studies area, more specifically the ones regarding the Metalexicographical and Lexicographical Pedagogy, represented in this paper mainly the studies and papers by Dapena (2002); Welker (2004); and Bugueño Miranda e Borba (2019). The result in this doctoral thesis is one of a positive aspect, as it is presented metalexicographical suggestions/strategies for the planning/elaboration of a possible lexicographical project focusing on the elaboration of dictionary(ries) of Portuguese as a Foreign Language (PLE) for Young Learners
