Resumo: The reflection on Hannah Arendt's conception of history is based on the phenomenological political analysis of the unveiling of men in the world. For Arendt, what is important is not a systematic conceptualization of History, but rather reflecting on the appearance of men to one another and, thus, investigating how inter-human relations in the public space create conditions for historical memory and the transmission of deeds. The author turns to the original experiences of the ancient Greeks and Augustine to support her conception of history. In addition, Arendt's conception of history is based mainly on her theory of action. Emphasis is placed on the actions of men, considering key notions in Arendtian philosophy, such as natality, unpredictability, irreversibility, forgiveness and promise. With this, it is possible to establish a distance between Arendt's conception of history and other philosophical notions that seek to establish a procedural chain of facts. History, in Arendt, has as its backdrop contingency and events in their unique and unprecedented appearance. Considering these ideas, one can analyze why Arendt is a fierce critic of the theoretical foundations that resulted in the totalitarian movements of the 20th century. For the author, the analysis of human history must produce awareness, understanding, judgment and responsibility, given that the past, present and future are dimensions of existence that cannot be disregarded in human action
