Resumo: The scope of this study is to seek to reflect on the relevance of including a specific Animal Law discipline in the Brazilian Basic Education Network, and its legal reality in Brazil. In view of the need for the effectiveness of Animal Law due to the constant acts of human cruelty that still occur against various species of animals, and in order to reflect on the importance of school learning about these sentient beings, a study is carried out regarding the definitions of Animal Law provided for in the Brazilian legal system. To this end, its history, philosophical considerations and the consequences that this school learning will possibly reflect on society in general are described. In this sense, the possibility and need to include the specific study of Animal Law in the Brazilian Basic Education Network, made up of Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education and Secondary Education, is proclaimed. For this purpose, the legal provisions that deal with Animal Law in Brazil are analyzed, and the consequences that the lack of elucidation on this topic can have on people individually and collectively. Through analytical research, as well as documentary and bibliographical study, the protection of non-human animals in the legal sphere is defined. In view of this, the effective relevance of the mentioned study can be seen, making it possible to verify the feasibility of including the study of Animal Law in the Brazilian Basic Education Network
