Resumo: This research focus on the area of theatre and politics, using the literacy and dramatic work of França Júnior as the object (José Joaquim da França Júnior, 1838-1890). This author creates a consistent dramaturgy and produces in a hybrid of journalism and literature the folhetim , in which several dimensions of the Brazilian society of the second half of the 19th century, more specifically the Imperial Court of Rio de Janeiro society, are expressed. In the folhetins it is possible to interpret França Junior´s thought and social criticism, from the metaphorical presentation of reality as a historical record and social analysis (the sociological day dream made in the folhetins ). As for the plays, the understanding of the scenes and dialogues were sought in the analysis of the structures and the internal elements, not only in the relation with the society but also from the drama structure standing point. The reference for his criticism is a bourgeois, modern, civilized society, from European inspiration, opposite to the one present in the Imperial Court
