Resumo: This research aims to investigate the contributions of university extension to the training of social workers in a critical perspective. As base theories, from the epistemological point of view, we are based on the contribution of the Transformative Learning Theory, as well as, from the methodological point of view, we are based on the Grounded Theory. From a preliminary exploratory survey, we seek to promote an approach to the theme. The survey was carried out through an electronic survey-type questionnaire, whose results guided the elaboration of indepth interview scripts. The interviews were carried out with students, teachers, and graduates from Educational Institutions of different legal natures. Literary survey and qualitative data were systematized using the IRAMUTEQ System. At the end of the research, we conclude that extension practices strongly contribute to the emergence of disorienting dilemmas from the insertion of subjects in the social reality, which expresses the political and economic dynamics of society, deeply studied in the Social Work course. This contribution is perceived and qualified by students, teachers, students, and graduates. However, the achievement of extensionist incursions leads to challenges of different orders, among which the financing and logistics stand out
