Resumo: This work aims, through the analysis of selected works by Sigmund Freud, to reach a knowledge of how the author builds, having as background the theory of mind developed by himself, having as background the constitution of psychoanalysis, a particular concept of conscience. On his writings, Freud has never dealt with conscience as a problem detached from the theory he developed from his clinical observations. Nevertheless he has many times faced the question of undestanding conscience and the ways it works on the individual and the community basis, and he has never refused handling it. And, in handling this question, the thinker from Vien dealt also – always having as reference his theory of mind – with what basis determines the subject‟s modes of action. Basis with which both the subject‟s development in his childhhod and his relations with others contribute to assemble– but not only them. Through this work, guided by texts in which the author dwells on the definition of conscience, there is also room for the presentation of the Unconscious concept, a keystone in the architecture of Freudian thought. There is also room for assessing part of Immanuel Kant‟s ethics, that was called by the Father of Psychoanalysis himself to be compared to conscience
