Resumo: This work is dedicated to the analysis of the role of language and mental gears in the process of development of the Brazilian sociopolitical crisis, which has been unfolding since the beginning of the 2010s. The first chapter, dedicated to the analysis of bibliographic perspectives on the formation of thought, language and the characteristics of concrete world and ideas, is divided into three parts. In the first, the relationships between ideas and empirical phenomena are presented from the perspective of Milton Santos, Karl Popper, Thomas Hobbes, David Hume, Guy Debord, Charles Sanders Peirce, Lúcia Santaella, Gabriel Tarde, Roland Barthes, Zygmunt Bauman, Jean Baudrillard, between others. In the second, through the thinking of Noam Chomsky, Charles Hockett, Leonid B. Vishnyatsky, Yuval Harari, the way language appears in and evolves along the trajectory of the human species is analyzed. In the third, we investigate the relationship between development of our potential to make abstraction and social fractionation. George Berkeley, Plato, Hegel, Carl Gustav Jung, Le Breton, Thomas Khun and Jürgen Habermas make up this stage. The second chapter is focused on the analysis of aspects of Brazilian society with the potential to impact the crisis. Historical data on political and educational background and the role of the military in building the country, all analyzed from the perspective of language and mental processes, appear in this block. It also addresses the issue of new communication technologies. Among other authors, there are Simon Schwartzman, Antônio Carlos Robert Moraes, Gilberto Freyre, Sérgio Buarque de Holanda, Caio Prado Jr., Pierre Bourdieu, Byung-Chul Han and Dominique Wolton. The third and final chapter presents the results of an empirical research carried out with the aim of demonstrating that the relationships between the concrete and language worlds evolve with the development of present difficulties. The method consisted of searching for mentions of terms that express a space of tension between the world of objects in themselves and the world of representations, such as truth, lie, fiction, in journalistic articles from the Folha de S. Paulo newspaper. Data collection took into account the July to October editions of three time series, 2010, 2014 and 2018. We present evidence that the social crisis anticipates the political one, strong evidence that social networks, as they serve as an instrument for elocution, capture the role of language in the process of consolidating the crisis and that the period between 2010 and 2014 is central to understanding the instabilities of our time
