Resumo: This study aims to reflect on contemporary ruralities, in what they express more specifically and what are the symbolic representations that determine practical actions in a re-signified territory. Based on an ethnography of the views cast by the social actors themselves on their everyday realities, ways of life and social practices, we sought to qualitatively understand the extent to which these views can be interpreted as alternatives to the dominant way of life in the metropolis. The field study was carried out through in-depth interviews with former residents of Remanso, located on the border of the municipalities of Cotia and Vargem Grande Paulista, in the extreme southwest of the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo. Making use of specific bibliographical support from mostly Latin American authors, we sought to understand how these ruralities can be epistemologically (re)interpreted according to the basis of a true decolonial turn on scientific work. Finally, seeking to understand how patterns of formation of identities, alterities and sociabilities develop in spatial contexts on which ruralities are represented, we intend to contribute with the set of conclusions that allow us to think of theoretical and practical alternatives for the decoloniality of power, of knowing and being
