Resumo: |
This dissertation aims to reflect on the concept of ecocriticism and its importance today through the works The Lord of the Rings, by John Ronald Reuel Tolkien (1892-1973), known as J.R.R. Tolkien, important writer, university professor and british philologist, and Unexplained Tree, by brazilian author Carol Chiovatto, who is also a translator and PhD in Literature. With the current discussions about sustainability and global warming, this research aims to delve deeper into issues that reflect on our planet by highlighting how Tolkien's literature is visionary and the ecocriticism present in his work, timeless. In view of the representation of nature in The Lord of the Rings and Unexplained Tree, a detailed analysis of the natural world of these acclaimed universes is carried out with the purpose of highlighting the relationship between literature and ecology and its relevance to contemporary society, through a ecocriticism perspective. For these results, works by renowned researchers of Tolkien's work are used, such as Humphrey Carpenter. For ecocriticism reflections, there is support from experts such as Greg Garrard, Maria Esther Maciel, Michel Collot and Yi-Fu Tuan. In fantasy literature, support from scholars such as Brian Attebery, Edward James, Farah Mendlesohn and J.R.R. Tolkien himself. |
