Resumo: |
In this work we present a study about some geometric knowledge used in the elaboration of an instrument designed to draw ellipses, described in a seventeenth century treatise De Organica Conicarum Sectionum in Plano Descriptione. The first edition of this treatise was written and published by Frans van Schooten (1615 – 1660) in 1646 in the Dutch city of Leiden. Our study focused on the first two chapters of the treatise, in which Van Schooten presents the geometrical assumptions of the instrument to trace an elipse. To do so, we perform a contextual and epistemological analysis in order to align this research with a more updated historiographic proposal. In this way, we present the context for the elaboration of the treatise, as well as the criteria and geometric knowledge mobilized by van Schooten in order to explain and comment them. We conclude this work highlighting interesting aspects that can be explored in the future by professors who wish to elaborate activities contemplating the construction of interfaces between history and teaching of mathematics |
