The aim of this work is to historicise the course of intense dedication to literary criticism and translation from Russian into Portuguese by Boris Schnaiderman, the founder of a consistent tradition in the field of Russian studies in Brasil. This tradition can be observed today in the growing number of high-quality translations directly from Russian into Portuguese and the consequent wider reception of this literature. To this end, we conclude that it is important to seek in the format of the literary and cultural journalism practiced in Suplemento Literário (1956-1971) - the source of its first written records - the foundation of its aesthetic and axiological assumptions. In addition to reading these journalistic texts, we also examine the editorial paratexts produced by Schnaiderman to his own translations: introductions, prefaces, postscripts, translator's notes, biographical notes and appendices. The study of all this material leads to the understanding that the interlocution between literary criticism and translation presents itself as the primordial constituent in the intellectual production of our subject of study. Thus, with the intention of constructing a possible architetonics of the relations between these facets of Schnaiderman's intellectual, we propose to research him as a translator-critic in the first chapter, and a critic-translator in the second.
