Various economic currents indicate information and knowledge as bases for economic development, having the Internet as one of the most important tools for dissemination and access to information: is the basic infrastructure of the new technological paradigm; is a vector of social and economic transformations, either by business networks, ecommerce or social networks and isn't just a means of mass communication. Therefore, from the theoretical basis of the Neo-schumpeterians or Evolutionary, the study developed by this Dissertation shows the importance of information and knowledge in the economy. It raises a brief history of the Internet, their introduction in Brazil and its regulation. It does an analysis on the Internet in the Brazilian economy, its infrastructure, using researchs conducted by Internet Management Committee (CGI.br), Brazilian Federation of Banks (FEBRABAN), among others
