Resumo: The use of certain spa for curative effect has known for a long time. In this dissertation, we ll establish connection between mineral water s appliance for therapeutic aim and the legislation of 1945 Código de Águas Minerais , to understand if this legislation came to control a previous use, regarding the knowledge moves through the time, to answer each social context question. This legislation valid until our days is useful to consider water as mineral due to its curative effects (used or not), associated with the chemical composition. In this research, we ll present the mineral water s work in Brazil in XX century (between 1930 1970) by Termas de Ibirá study, showing, with some examples, the therapeutic properties of its mineral water. We also introduce how the chemical knowledge can change through the time, in the determination of chemical composition of mineral water, and the institutions that achieved chemical analysis of this water, as well some methods used by them. Although mineral water s composition doesn t modifie through the time, our search also made possible to verify different prescriptions by distinct health professionals in the same thermae
