Resumo: The limit concept has been the subject of several studies and it has been discussed the epistemological obstacles that affect the learning of it. In this study, we reflect about the limit of a function. Therefore, we seek four approaches. In the first one, we present the results of literature review papers that were directly or indirectly related to our study. In the second, we seek elements of the history of mathematics to reflect more deeply about the development and incorporation of the concept of limits and the difficulties that generated different obstacles. In the third, we conduct a study of the concept of limit as mathematical object. Therefore, we performed an analysis of some books using theories of Chevallards and Duval. The first one for we think about the relations between: theory, technology, and technical task. The second one we use for to analyze specifically the types of tasks and the types of records present in theses tasks. This study was conducted through textbooks of Differential and Integral Calculus, so we brought also elements of Bakhtin's theory to analyze the structure of the speech presented in each book. In the fourth and final approach we tried stripping the perception of the professor and the student about the concept of limit. To achieve this goal we use a combination of approaches. We bring both elements - quantitative and qualitative. Through questionnaires, interviews and free activities, we prepared the instruments for data collection in guiding the theory of Bakhtin and Vygotsky, as elements of the theories of both make themselves present in the classroom and in the speeches. These authors were our benchmarks to analyze what has been said, written, drawn in conceptual terms. The construction of each chapter was also inspired by the theory of Bakhtin - so cross - seek dialogue with different elements in each chapter to, in the end, being able to take "another look" at the concept of limit. A look that not privilege one aspect, but you can - through all contribute to this dialogue we can understand why this concept is so intriguing and challenging. we combined aspects of both the quantitative and qualitative approach, we use questionnaires, interviews and free activity. The data confirmed the results of some previous studies and showed other elements related to the concept of limit and brought also new challenges and questions for future research
