Resumo: The present study aims to analyze the legal relationships regarding the family, by what is understood legally regulated relationships between parents, children, and spouses, especially regarding the themes: marriage, involving its implications, inherent duties and dissolution; paternal power; patrimonial relationships between family members; and succession law. There are two objectives in the present study: first, it intends to demonstrate that the legal relationships regarding the family, like all legally established or regulated institutes, are human productions that follow the dominant values of a certain time, changing according to the most urgent needs are imposed; second, it seeks to assess whether the protection constitutionally intended for the family and individual rights enshrined as fundamental in the Brazilian Federal Constitution of 1988 are met by the way in which legal relationships regarding the family are regulated. Therefore, a bibliographic and documentary research is carried out. The topics addressed are always faced from the circumstances in which they are inserted, in order to understand the evolution of their treatment. The starting point of the work is the Greco-Roman tradition. Afterwards, the Judeo-Christian influx in this tradition is studied. Finally, it deals with the process of secularization and legal-family relations in Brazil, starting from the way in which tradition is received and how the process of secularization changes these relations completely
