This research aims to stimulate the debate on possible interrelations between Brazilian literature and Hispano-American literature, mainly in the 1960s. The study surveys the connections and contacts among intellectuals and writers of Brazilian and HispanoAmerican origin, at two relevant points in time: the vanguards and the Brazilian modernism, during the literary boom period, involving the writer Mário de Andrade and the critics Antonio Candido and Ángel Rama. The connective network gathers intellectuals around the debates promoted by groups, which are dedicated to reflecting on and formulating categories of thought which focus on the adversities imposed by the colonial and imperialist systems to the regions of America. Among them, the French triad: Memmi, Césaire and Fanon and the Latin-American Group of Subaltern Studies [Grupo Latino-Americano dos Estudos Subalternos] (1993). Such movements culminated in the desire to create a project of cultural configuration of the continent which recognized Latin America as a unit in diversity (MARTÍNEZ, 1979). The study also makes a comparative analysis between The devil to pay in the backlands [Grande sertão: veredas] (1956), by João Guimarães Rosa, and The fox from up above and the fox from down below [El zorro de arriba y el zorro de abajo] (1971- posthumous), by José María Arguedas, aiming to analyze the level of “cultural plasticity” (RAMA, 2001) which correlates them, from the perspective of the “Narrative Transculturation” studies, and which inserts them in the context of post-colonial debates, from the perspective of the coloniality of power, knowledge and being (QUIJANO, 2019). In order to validate the approximation among these literatures, the study further ventures into a spin which are select facts and characters that help the encounters and disagreements.
