The imaginary of the New World's discovery is revisited by two works: Grande Sertão: veredas (1956), by Guimarães Rosa, and Manual de Zoologia Fantástica (1957), by Jorge Luís Borges and Margarita Guerrero. The devil in Rosa's novel points out more than a methaphysical drama: a identitary issue. The beasts present in the Manual adress the intermittent translations to which the writer devotes himself, in the moment he thinks about his identity. The works update the traumatic birth of the latin-american identity and points to the writing as a refuge room against the aporia of the senses, the death. The writers lean themselves on an excessive discourse which can be retold infinitely, because, due to the trauma, our ghosts don't stop coming. From this point of view, the Literature is an important allied to the founding of an identitary narrative.
