Resumo: |
This research aims to investigate the presence and influence of French women's magazines from the 1920s in the construction of a fashion system that simultaneously reflects and nurtures the social, cultural, and economic dynamics of its time. Through the analysis of three magazines that constitute the French women's fashion press—Femina (1901-1954), La Gazette du Bon Ton (1912-1914; 1920-1925), and Vogue Paris (1920-present)— it looks forward to comprehend the meanings of fashion, considering the roles of fashion magazines in the construction and dissemination of social and aesthetic values, in the contribution to the consolidation of a prestige system, promoting haute couture and figures of the Parisian elite, as well as establishing fashion as a field of negotiation between the upper circles of society and the consumers who aspired to these same unattainable ideals |
