Resumo: The present study aims to investigate the implementation of institutional assessment in a public school that serves elementary students in Campinas, a city of São Paulo. The hypothesis of this research is that institutional assessment, proposed by the Municipal Education, was implemented in this school, however with some adjustments due to the reinterpretation of the school according to their reality, treading own ways. The objective of this research is to verify how the implementation process occurs of political action for institutional evaluation by the subjects involved, as well what factors influence their implementation and how it reverberates in school management and school practice. As methodological parameters of the research and analysis of the object is used the contribution of authors and signatories of qualitative evaluation proposals, represented by the authors that propose the Illuminative Evaluation, Hamilton and Parlett (1989), accompanied by considerations Draibe and Arretche (2001) and the theoretical contribution of the researcher Licínio Lima (2008) to analyze aspects of the organization and operation of the school management. Faced with the prospect of understanding the course of the implementation of institutional assessment, the research procedures adopted involve collecting information through observation of daily school and meeting the Evaluation Committee Academic (ECA), consultation of official documents of the school unit searched and the managing agency, and further semi-structured interviews with school members and the Municipal Education
