Resumo: |
This study intends to make a reflection on the different ways of using the colors in picturebooks, analyzing its poetic potency and relations with the other narrative languages. Its value is justified when we observe that, although the illustrated book is extensively researched in contemporary times, there are still few studies dedicated specifically to think about the narrative potency of the color. Starting from the question: How far is the chromatic language constituted as poetic, forming meanings from its specificities in the picturebooks?, we proposed the hypothesis that the color reaches its poetic potential when it moves away from its realistic representation to approach expression, that is, by building meanings in the narrative itself. The main objectives of this research are, therefore: delve into the chromatic language and its specificities in the picturebooks; understand its poetic language in the narrative; contribute to the critical fortune of cited works and the researched theme. Organized in three chapters, this dissertation, bibliographic and qualitative, first presents a brief historical overview of the picturebooks, based on the studies of Sophie Van der Linden and Nikolajeva and Scott, with a focus on chromatic language. Then, it proposes to investigate the color as a visual experience, with the theoretical support of Goethe and Pastoreau, and about the poetics brought by Pignatari and Chklovski. The theory of fantasy, by Munari, and about childhood, by Benjamin and Agamben, will help us, also in this chapter, to establish a dialogue with the maximum potency of color in the illustrated narratives. The research ends with the analysis of three silentbooks in which color plays a fundamental role in the narrative: Sidewalk Flowers, by JonArno Lawson and Sydney Smith; Vazio, by Catarina Sobral; and Cena de Rua, by Angela Lago. We will thus bring reflexions about color in literature, a language that should be valued as a narrative element, considering its wide poetic expressiveness |
