The present work is based on the experience with a young man affected by the Angelman syndrome at a special education institution. João displayed dificulties in establishing social links, excluding whatever came from others. The goal of this work is to investigate the position of the educator in the institutional practice involving problems of organic disabilities and psychic constitution. Work was done in the sense of engaging the subject in social links, following the necessities observed throughout the practice. João guided the educator in a visit through his symbolic games, revealing that the intervention is found between treating and educating. The clarification of the boundaries and limits of these two fields is necessary in order to establish a support based to a smaller extent on the imaginary enclosure, therefore, allowing the identification of the educational goals as well as the position of the educator involved with such practice, In this way, throughout this dissertation, the fields of investigation were first defined and the intersections among them were analyzed: the relation between the organic and subjective, pedagogy and education, treating and educating. The most precarious definition of the differences bewteen treating and educating was shown to be essentially beaurocratic. The fact that a professional s work takes place at a special education institution alone does not guarantee that this work will be educational. The consideration of the question of the four discourses proposed by Jacques Lacan allowed a detachment from the beaurocratic registry to identify the educator s position in a practice situated between treating and educating |
