Resumo: Most of the written narratives that students find in school reading programs have a special kind of instructionality that is mandatory without being overtly moralizing. Thus, linguistic resources for the construction of emotion and ethics are specifically arranged to co-create complexes of higher-order meanings, or metarrelations, which position readers to adopt specific attitudes towards the characters in the course of a text. In this sense, narrative teaches through two types of subjectivity - intersubjectivity (the ability to "feel with" a character) and supersubjectivity (the ability to "supervise" a character and ethically evaluate his actions). The objective of this dissertation is the critical analysis of Negrinha, by Monteiro Lobato, to show, through Negrinha, how lexicographic choices made by the author for the construction of emotion and ethics denounce the horrors that whites imposed on blacks , even in the post-slavery period. In order to do so, it contributes in this analysis to the presence of appraisal - in its explicit and implicit manifestation - that goes through the text via meta-relations, revealing the sad situation that our country has already experienced. Thus, the research appeals to the theoretical-methodological proposal of Systemic-Functional Linguistics (LSF), which involves the theory of appraisal; as well as to critical linguistics, and should answer the following questions: (a) Which lexicographic choices show the cruel reality of black slavery revealed in the relationship between Negrinha and D. Inácia? (b) How is the construction of emotion and ethics done through appraisal via metarrelations? The critical analysis of Lexico-grammatical choices made by Lobato in Negrinha helps to denounce - from the point of view of ethics - the horrors of suffering imposed on the black and, on the other hand, arouses - from the point of view of emotion - the feeling of empathy raised by the conscience of the injustice committed to our African brothers
