Resumo: |
Pony play is an umbrella term for various kinky and BDSM activities carried out consensually among adults, where at least one of the individuals involved takes on the role of a horse. With the new DSM-V in 2013 and ICD-10 in 2018 BDSM is no longer classified as a disorder. However, the literature indicates that many psychology professionals still lack adequate training to work with this specific population. Additionally, within the realm of analytical psychology, there is a scarcity of literature focused on understanding kinky and BDSM populations, and research on pony play involving practitioners was not found until the completion of this study. Given the relevance of the topic in the present context, this exploratory study aimed to comprehend pony play experience from the perspective of its practitioners and to conduct an analysis of the themes and meanings present in the discourse of these individuals with an analytical psychology lens. Participants were purposefully selected through snowball sampling, and 87 volunteers met the inclusion criteria. The analysis of written reports was conducted using the textual analysis software IRaMuTeQ, followed by a thematic analysis of the obtained results. The process resulted in six thematic categories: (1) Activities in Wide Spaces; (2) Dance between Human and Pony; (3) Vacation for the Brain; (4) Pony Play and BDSM; (5) Continuation of the Path; and (6) Sexuality and Intimacy. The data collected and analytical theory allowed for an understanding of pony play in its various facets as part of the human experience, which may help inform healthcare professionals working with this population. The application of analytical psychology understanding to the study of unconventional subcultures, giving voice to different experiences, allows for the construction of a more inclusive psychology, with the present study being only an initial step in the exploration of pony play and other similar subcultures |
